Riot "Archives Volume 5: 1992-2005 (2CD+DVD, High Roller Records, HRR 604 CD)"

Volume 5, spanning the years 1993 to 2002 and including rare recordings from the album sessions to "Nightbreaker", "Brethren Of The Long House", "Inishmore", "Sons Of Society" and "Through The Storm", marks the end of High Roller Records' long-running Riot "Archives" series.

The highlight of "Vol.5" might be the song "Sylvia", which was recorded during the "Nightbreaker" recordings sessions but never made it onto the proper album. Between 1993 and 2002 Riot released five studio albums.

Giles Lavery, product co-ordinator of the "Archives" series, comments: "Riot was like a musical sanctuary to a heavy metal fan in that sense... There were some artists like Alice Cooper, Whitesnake or Magnum who kind of sat out or split for most of the later 1990s but then came back in the early 2000s with regular release."

Riot "Archives Volume Four: 1988-1989 (CD+DVD, High Roller Records, HRR 571 CD)"

Riot Archives Vol.4 contains the original demo versions of a lot of material which later ended up on The Privilege Of Power album (from 1990).

Don Van Stavern compares the rough demo takes of the Privilege Of Power material (recorded in Texas) to the finished album versions (laid down in New York City): The producers wanted to put a bunch of stars as guest musicians on the album, that was the deal, and they wanted to put horns on there. That was okay. But then they put the noise in-between each song, the little intros, and then a long intro. And then the song would finish and there would be another long intro.

A lot of fans said: We just wanna hear the music, we don't wanna hear that. That was one of the things we didn't really like about the finished version of The Privilege Of Power. The horns were cool but we didn't like the bits and pieces in-between the actual songs.
