Negură Bunget "Om"

Negură Bunget was a black metal band from Timișoara, Romania whose atmospheric sound incorporated elements of progressive metal and Romanian folk music.

Negură Bunget originally formed at the end of 1994 under the name Wiccan Rede, as a duo of Negru (Gabriel Mafa) on drums and Hupogrammos Disciple (Edmond Karban) on guitars, vocals, and keyboards. Both musicians had previously been members of Makrothumia. Wiccan Rede released one demo, 1995's From Transilvanian Forests, before changing their name to Negură Bunget. In a 2004 interview, Negru explained the symbolism of the name:
Negură Bunget is a black fog coming from a deep dark dense forest. The name tries to picture somehow the kind of atmosphere, both musical and spiritual we'd want to create through our music. It has also an esoteric nature, standing for the inexpressible parts of our ideology. The two words are also from the Tracic substrate of the Romanian language (the oldest one, containing about 90 words) as the interest for our local history and spirituality is something of crucial importance and meaning for us as a band.
OM is a concept album by Negură Bunget, released on October 20, 2006, on the Code666 label. It was recorded in Negură Music Studio and produced, mixed and mastered by the band. A double LP of the album with a bonus track was released by Enucleation Records in 2008. Another double LP edition, remastered but without the bonus track, was released by Blood Music in 2014.

The album received wide critical acclaim from metal critics. Writing for AllMusic, Eduardo Rivadavia called OM the band's "opus" and cited its "breathtaking range and imagination", while Heathen Harvest's Conor Fynes said that the album "had one of the most original and otherworldly atmospheres ever committed to the black metal artform".

MetalStorm stated, "OM is nothing short of a masterpiece...A divine album with a unique style and its own trademark, this album is one of 2006's best efforts".

Sputnikmusic's Dean J. Brown gave OM a perfect 5 "classic" rating and retrospectively noted the album's major impact, saying, "Cinematic in its orchestration and flawless in its execution, Negură Bunget’s OM, at the time of its release, tore apart the confines of what constituted black metal and re-imagined it in line with the band's own morbid visions; which were entirely unique to their Romanian surroundings...It’s a masterpiece of art, not just music". He went on to list in the album among the black metal genre's most important records: "When the annals of black metal are finally written - [it] will sit at the pantheon alongside classics such as Darkthrone's Transilvanian Hunger, Mayhem's De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas and Emperor's In the Nightside Eclipse".

Track 5 of this CD has a nice history: the first European pressing by Black Mark Production had noted track 5 as "Shadows of the Moon", a short (1:14) quasi-instrumental in the booklet and on the back cover, but by mistake they pressed "Inborn Evil" as the song on the CD. Approx. 1000 CDs were pressed for the US market by Cargo Records Germany where track 5 was noted as "Shadows of the Moon" in the booklet and on the back cover and where "Shadows of the Moon" is also pressed on CD. This record is the one and only pressing with this instrumental song "Shadows of the Moon".

All other European reissues by Hammerheart Records, Painkiller Records and Karmageddon Media have "Inborn Evil" noted on the back cover/booklet and the song "Inborn Evil" pressed on the CD/LP.
