Funeral "In Fields Of Pestilent Grief"

In Fields of Pestilent Grief is a studio album by the Norwegian funeral doom metal band Funeral. It was their first full-length studio album since their album Tragedies.

Einar Fredriksen, the then-bassist of Funeral, gave several reasons for the seven-year gap in between albums in an interview with doom-metal.com. Some of those reasons, according to Fredriksen, was because Funeral's previous label, Arctic Serenades, decided to rip the band off, Toril Snyen was removed from the band (and replacing her proved was difficult), finding a label, and lack of musical motivation from some band members. Eventually, the band got to recording this album, and according to Einar, it still had the trademarks of old Funeral, but was more inspired by their anger due to the certain aforementioned circumstances.

This was Einar Fredriksen's last interview before committing suicide in January 2003.

Tracks 1-5 recorded at Studio Tinnitus in autumn 1999 (taken from the "Demo '99" sessions).
Tracks 6-10 recorded at Studio Tinnitus in November-December 2000.

Mastered at Studio Tinnitus.

Funeral "Tragedies"

In 1994 the band became one of the first doom metal bands to recruit a female vocalist, Toril Snyen. In 1995 they released the album Tragedies, probably one of their more known albums. In the same year, they parted with Toril Snyen.

Tragedies is the first full-length album by the Norwegian funeral doom/death metal band Funeral. Track one of the album, "Taarene" is sung in Norwegian, while the other four tracks are sung in English. The album contains three original tracks and two from the Beyond All Sunsets demo. It was originally released through Arctic Serenades, then rereleased through Firebox Records, along with the Tristesse demo and three bonus tracks. In 1994, shortly before the release of this album, Funeral recruited a female vocalist named Toril Snyen. Funeral was one of the first doom metal bands to do so. Late in 1995, Funeral would part ways with Snyen. Tragedies was one of the albums that helped form the subgenre of funeral doom.

Tracks 1-3 recorded at V.L.K. Studio in autumn 1994.

Tracks 4-5 recorded at Norsk Lydskole in April 1994 (taken from the "Beyond All Sunsets" sessions).

Funeral "Tristesse (EP)"

In 1993, the band recorded their first demo, entitled Tristesse, released the following year as a mini CD by an American record label. According to the official Funeral website this demo won them the title of "the most depressing band in the world".
