Twisted Sister "Come Out And Play (1997 Reissue, Japan, EastWest Japan, AMCY-3102)"

Come Out and Play is the fourth studio album by American heavy metal band Twisted Sister, released by Atlantic Records on November 22, 1985. The album was significantly less successful than its predecessor Stay Hungry (1984), both critically and commercially, although it achieved Gold status by selling more than 500,000 copies.

Following the massive success of 1984's Stay Hungry, which established Twisted Sister as one of the world's top recording acts, the band was faced with the question of whether they should continue in the same MTV and radio-friendly direction that brought them so much success, or return to their heavy metal roots. Come Out and Play saw them attempt to do both, but the approach ultimately proved devastatingly unsuccessful and the album marked the beginning of the band's commercial decline.

The band's decision to record a cover of the 1964 Shangri-Las' hit "Leader of the Pack" and release it as the album's first single proved very unpopular with the band's fanbase. Ultimately, neither "Leader of the Pack" nor second single "Be Chrool To Your Scuel" (featuring guest appearances from artists such as Alice Cooper, Brian Setzer, Clarence Clemons and Billy Joel) came close to matching the success of "We're Not Gonna Take It" or "I Wanna Rock" from 1984's Stay Hungry.

The 1986 world tour in support of Come Out and Play was a fiasco, marked by low attendance and ticket sales so low in some cities that several shows were simply canceled. Longtime drummer A.J. Pero left the band following the tour in 1986, contributing to the chaos that eventually saw Twisted Sister disband in 1988.

The music videos for "Leader of the Pack" and "Be Chrool to Your School" followed the same comedic formula that had been so successful for the band in the Stay Hungry era. The latter single, featuring a prominent guest spot by Dee Snider's hero Alice Cooper, was banned by MTV on the grounds that it was offensive. The band didn't produce a video for the album's second and final US single, "You Want What We Got".

In 1986 the band released the Come Out and Play: The Videos home video on VHS, which included four videos ("We're Not Gonna Take It", "I Wanna Rock", "Leader of the Pack" and "Be Chrool to Your Scuel") tied together by scenes of Snider in a scrapyard being visited by troubled teens seeking advice, to the tune of the song "Come Out and Play". This home video has never been re-issued on DVD.

The intro to the title track features an homage to the 1979 cult classic movie The Warriors, in which the main villain, Luther, chants "Warriors, come out to play".

Twisted Sister "Love Is For Suckers (Germany, Atlantic Records, 7567-81772-2)"

Love Is for Suckers is the fifth studio album by the heavy metal band Twisted Sister. It was strongly influenced by glam metal bands, although the band split after its release and had a lot of conflicts with this record which led to a split. According to the Live At Wacken DVD, the material was originally meant to be a solo album by Twisted Sister's lead singer, Dee Snider, but the label pushed for it to be released under the Twisted Sister name instead. Love Is For Suckers was released by Atlantic Records on August 13, 1987. The tour for the album ended in Minneapolis, Minnesota on October 10, 1987. Two days later, on October 12, 1987, vocalist Dee Snider announced his departure from the band.

This would be Twisted Sister's final studio album of original material, as all albums since have been compilations or live albums (with the exception of 2004's Still Hungry which was a rerecording of 1984's Stay Hungry and A Twisted Christmas in 2006).

Dee Snider has stated that he likes many of the songs on the album, vocally. However he feels that if they play any of them live, it may bring back bad memories for the band. In 2012 the band introduced "Wake Up (The Sleeping Giant)" into their set, following demands from fans for material to be included from all of the band's studio albums.

In a 2009 interview by Ruben Mosqueda, Snider spoke of his thoughts on the album:

"There's some great stuff on there man! The thing is, that was supposed to be my first solo album. The thing was the record company and management pressured me into making it a Twisted Sister record. There's some stuff that was in the Twisted Sister vein but it was supposed to be a solo record, that album was meant to give the band the break we needed. I felt that by releasing a solo album I could put that out there, get it out my system, and then after a short break we could regroup and work on a new album. The recording, the promotion and touring of Love is for Suckers went on to kill the band. Management and the record company in their infinite wisdom know best. Oh let's put five guys who can't stand each other in a studio for three months!"

No songs from this album appeared on the band's 1992 greatest hits album Big Hits and Nasty Cuts.

In 2012 Dee Snider commented to an audience at the annual concert festival in Dessel Belgium, known as the Graspop Metal Meeting, "Now we have been accused in the past of not playing stuff from all of our albums, so this year we added one song from the Love Is For Suckers record to the set [...] for those who know in the 80s, there was a little problem in Washington with censorship and this one was a big middle finger to Washington D.C. It's called Wake Up (the Sleeping Giant)" which the band then performed.

This album was originally supposed to be a Dee Snider solo record but the record company demanded it be recorded and released as Twisted Sister.

There have been conflicting reports over the years as to exactly what the recording line-up for the album was. Jay Jay French, Eddie Ojeda and Mark "The Animal" Mendoza are all credited in their normal roles but some or all of the guitars and bass were recorded by credited guest musician Reb Beach.

The title track was written by Marky Carter and originally released by Gary Private in 1985. This version includes modified lyrics by Dee Snider.

During recording, producer Tom Werman brought some songs by English heavy metal band Saxon for the band to listen to, this led to a conflict with Dee Snider who understood it as Werman wanting the band to replace some of his songs with Saxon covers. Guitarist Jay Jay French also claims the band lost two songs that they wanted on the album due to Werman's influence.

Twisted Sister performed the song "Burn in Hell" during a cameo appearance in the 1985 film Pee-wee's Big Adventure. The song "Burn in Hell" was covered by black metal band Dimmu Borgir on Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia. "We're Not Gonna Take It" was also covered by Bif Naked on the Ready to Rumble soundtrack. The two songs that comprise the Horror-Teria segment became the basis of Twisted Sister lead singer Dee Snider's 1998 film Strangeland, in which Captain Howdy was played by Snider himself. The "Captain Howdy" segment of the "Horror-Teria" suite would later be covered by the death metal group Broken Hope on their album Repulsive Conception and in 1999 by the Swedish heavy metal band Morgana Lefay on their Symphony of the Damned, Re-symphonised album.

In 2004, the band re-recorded all nine songs from this album and re-released them under the title Still Hungry.

In 2009, the band played Stay Hungry in its entirety for the first time including songs never played live before, such as "Don't Let Me Down" and "Horror-Teria: Street Justice".

Metal Rules ranked the album #5 on their list of the Top 50 Glam Metal Albums.

In 2016, Loudwire ranked the album at number 6 on their list of the Top 30 Hair Metal Albums.

In 2017, Rolling Stone listed the album at No. 76 on its list of the 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time.

A 25th Anniversary Edition was released on June 30, 2009 by Rhino Records. The first disc contains remastered versions of the nine tracks from the May 1984 original. The bonus disc uncovers 15 unreleased outtakes and early demos from the original sessions, recorded in December 1983 at Nino's Studios, Baldwin, New York, as well as the new track "30" recorded especially for this collection by the 1984 lineup at Audio Magic, West Babylon, New York.

Additionally, any music fan who bought the CD or vinyl of Stay Hungry 25th Anniversary Edition in any participating independent record store received a free gift from the band: a DVD of the Twisted Sister 1984 Uncut Live at San Bernardino concert. Originally broadcast on MTV as Stay Hungry Live, the concert had been commercially unavailable for years and previously unavailable as DVD. June 30, 2009 was the only day the DVD was available and only through participating, independent record stores with a limited stock.
